POP IDOL FUN
Expressions, a singing school specialising in vocal and
performance training, based in Sunbury and Shepperton, is
expanding. The school focuses on pop and music theatre for
boys and girls from 7 to 18 years. Whether choosing it as
a hobby or on a more serious level, Expressions welcomes
all.
The founder, Cinnamon Fuller Bsc.(Hons.) B.Arts Assoc. Ele.Tap AMBA, knows
from her ten years experience teaching that it is important to have fun
whilst learning, which is essential to the development of the individual.
Singing, music and movement encourage self-expression and build self-confidence.
These remain with a child for the rest of their lives.
Working in the music industry as a session singer for EMI,
Cinnamon has recorded and toured with bands as a singer/songwriter.
With this wealth of knowledge, she realises the importance
of offering the children a chance to study contemporary
songs sung by their pop idols.
Students are given the opportunity to explore microphone
techniques, vocal improvisation, audition tips, characterisation,
choreography, harmony and aural skills plus gain an understanding
of music and theatre terminology.
From writing and directing childrens musicals in the US and the
UK, Cinnamon knows to be a good singer students not only require good
vocal technique but they also need training in performing. With this in
mind, Expressions aims to produce young entertainers whether they perform
for their family, at a karaoke party or for an audition.
Expressions opened in 2001 to children and adults looking for private
tuition. Students have included semi-professional bands, singer/songwriters
and children who have performed in Les Miserables, Annie,
Showboat, Joseph and his Technicolour Dreamcoat
and Stars in your Eyes.
For those who wish to take exams in singing, Cinnamon enters
private pupils with the London College of Music examinations
in Music Theatre. Each year pupils have achieved outstanding
results with a 100% pass rate, of which 70% have gained
the highest award of Honours. The London College of Music
exams have UCAS points recognition. So for students who
are entered for Grade 6, 7 or 8 in Music Theatre, their
exam result is credited and therefore worth points towards
their University application.
